The Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs at the College of Political Science, University of Anbar, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhannad Hameed Muhaidi, took part as a member of the examination committee for the PhD dissertation entitled:

“The Energy Variable in Russian Foreign Policy Toward the European Union after 2014 and Its Future Prospects”

The defense was held at Al-Ameed Institute for Graduate Studies.

The dissertation examined and analyzed the growing role of energy as one of the key pillars of Russian foreign policy, particularly after 2014, which marked a pivotal turning point in Russia–EU relations following the Ukraine crisis and the subsequent reciprocal sanctions.

The researcher highlighted how Russia has employed its energy resources as a strategic tool in managing its international relations, while also reviewing the EU’s positions and options in responding to this variable, and discussing the challenges both sides face amid global competition over energy resources.

Furthermore, the dissertation focused on the future prospects of Russia–EU relations in light of geopolitical and economic developments, exploring the potential for establishing a balance based on mutual interests away from conflict, in a way that contributes to the stability of the international system.

Dr. Muhannad Hameed Muhaidi’s participation, as Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, reflects the College of Political Science’s commitment to strengthening the academic presence of its faculty members in scholarly forums both inside and outside Iraq, and to actively engaging in discussions of strategic issues that form essential themes in the field of political studies.
