Anbar’s Youth Shape the Future

 Under the patronage of the President of the University of Anbar, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Taleb Al-Nada,

the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Anbar organized a workshop entitled:
“Activating UN Resolution 2250 in Light of the Upcoming Elections”
on Tuesday (September 23, 2025), under the slogan:
“The Youth of Anbar Shape the Future.”

The workshop was held in coordination with the University’s Community Service Unit, the National Committee for Combating Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism, and the Human Rights Commission – Anbar Office. It was also conducted in collaboration with the local government and a group of volunteers in the governorate, within the framework of the Youth Vision Project implemented by the Italian organization Un Ponte Per (UPP) in partnership with the Italian Agency for Peacebuilding and the Ashur Iraqi Foundation for Relief and Development.

Assistant Prof. Dr. Muhannad Hameed Muhaydi, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, participated in the workshop alongside a distinguished group of professors and researchers.

The workshop was hosted by the College of Education for Human Sciences – University of Anbar, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Taha Ibrahim Shbeeb, Dean of the College. The event, held in the Abu Al-Thana Al-Alusi Hall, witnessed broad participation from professors, researchers, and young activists.

The workshop’s sessions were divided into four main presentations:

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Tariq Hameed Mahmoud: The Youth Vision Project and UN Resolution 2250: Importance and Opportunities for Youth.

  • Prof. Dr. Nabeel Jassim Mohammed: The Social Importance of Youth Participation in Political Life, with Emphasis on Women’s Role in Elections and Community Awareness.

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Falah Mubarak Burdan: The Importance of Youth Participation in Elections.

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhannad Hameed Muhaydi: Challenges Facing Youth Participation in Elections.

In his address, the University President, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Taleb Al-Nada, affirmed that the University of Anbar bears a heightened responsibility in empowering youth and strengthening their electoral awareness, stemming from its academic and national mission in serving the community. He emphasized that the university will play an active role in ensuring the success of the upcoming elections through education, awareness, and the preparation of a conscious young generation capable of bringing about positive change.

He further stressed that the University of Anbar will remain a vital academic and societal platform, committed to promoting democratic values and peacebuilding through practical initiatives and national and international partnerships, thereby enhancing its role in ensuring the success of the electoral process and guaranteeing effective participation of both youth and women.

The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, most notably:

  • The need to activate UN Resolution 2250 to strengthen the role of youth and women.

  • Addressing the social and political challenges hindering their participation.

  • Ensuring their effective presence in the upcoming elections as the cornerstone of Iraq’s future.
